What can I expect on the first visit?
During the initial exam, a full health history will be taken. Questions will be asked regarding symptoms, diet, lifestyle and past medical history. Your pulse and tongue will be examined to give a picture of the influences of Qi, blood, yin and yang in the body. Acupuncture, moxibustion (burning herbs to heat acupuncture points), cupping (suction to release toxins and stagnation from the muscle layer and skin), auricular therapy (ear acupuncture), and acupressure may be performed. The initial visit ranges from 60-90 minutes. Follow up visits are from 45-60 minutes.
How many treatments will I need?
People's responses to acupuncture and herbal treatment can vary widely, but generally a normal treatment course is once to two times a week for 4-6 weeks. If the problem is chronic, a longer course of treatment may be required including a maintenance phase.
Does Insurance Cover Acupuncture?
Many California insurance plans do include acupuncture treatments in their policies. Also, many companies will allow reimbursement under a Flexible Spending Account. Please ask your insurance company about coverage or reimbursement for out of network acupuncture visits.
